Need Placement Testing?

Pima has three ways to assess if if a student able to take to assess if students are able to take college level math and writing courses.  To find out more about Pima's placement process please visit https://pima.edu/admission/placement-testing/index.html

If your unweighted cumulative high school GPA below a 3.25, or you are not currently in 11th grade, you will need to take the Pima's placement tests for Math, Writing and Reading in order for your VEC application to be evaluated. Pima has two method for placement testing - PimaEdReady and the Accuplacer. VEC applicants can use either or both methods if placement is needed.

Steps to taking the placement tests (PimaEdReady or Accuplacer):

  1. Fill out a Pima student application

    • In order to take placement tests, you need a Pima student A#.

    • Pima’s application is free and easy.

    • Note: Just make sure you upload any residency documentation where it asks, so that there is no delay in your application. Everyone gets accepted to Pima, there is just a bit of a delay in acceptance notification if residency documents aren't uploaded in order to make sure the application wasn’t filled out by a bot or fraudulent.

    • Here is the link to Pima’s application: https://pima.edu/admission/apply-to-pima/index.html

    • Once you have your student A# (it starts with an A, thus the reason it is called an A number) you can begin the process to take the placement tests. You must have your A# to take placement tests!

  2. Take your placement tests

    • Option 1 = Pima EdReady (non-proctored, online at anytime)

      • PimaEdReady is not proctored and can be taken anywhere/anytime.

      • To take the PimaEdReady tests go to Pima's placement testing website and follow the information listed for the Non-Proctored PimaEdReady

        https://pima.edu/admission/placement-testing/index.html

      • NOTE: For the Math EdReady, make sure you use the Advanced Algebra Goal Key in the Quick Start Guide

    • Option 2 = Accuplacer (proctored testing at Pima's testing center)

      • Go to Pima's testing page and follow the information for Proctored Placement and Coaching https://pima.edu/admission/placement-testing/index.html

      • If you decide to take the Accuplacer and not the EdReady placements, let the testing coach that contacts you to set up your appointment know that you are needing placement for classes ON Pima's campus, that way you are not delayed in by them thinking you want to take dual enrollment classes and them directing you to Pima's dual enrollment department.

Applicants may submit their application by the deadline without placement tests taken. However, the final deadline for placement for any applicant is February 2nd. If you have not taken placements by this date, or received a needed score in all three tests, we will not be able to consideration the applicant for the VEC program.

NOTE: Filling out Pima’s application and taking the placement tests is not a guarantee of acceptance into the Vail Early College but must happen before we can consider your application to the program if you do not qualify for placement in WRT 101 & MAT 151 or higher through GPA alone.
